How did Mama Packs come to be?

In September 2023, I (Alleta) had the privilege of spending a month working at the dispensary in Leparua, Kenya. Leparua is a remote community in Isiolo County, northern Kenya. The dispensary, a very rudimentary clinic, is the only medical facility available to the sprawling, impoverished community. Women and girls walk miles through the African wilderness to deliver at the dispensary, often with little more than the clothes on their backs. Faced with this challenge, we spoke to local mothers and traditional birth attendants (TBA’s) about post birth needs and Mama Packs was born!
